Water

In Økosamfundet Dyssekilde we are very aware of keeping down the use of clean drinking water. Generally we only use 60-65% of the average Danish water consumption. We do this in several ways: Some of the houses have compost toilets that use no water at all, we also try to use rainwater as much as possible, for instance to flush our toilets, in our private washing machines and watering our gardens.
In our communal laundry we use rainwater too, and the toilets in the cafe and shop flush with rainwater.
Most houses collect the rainwater from their roofs and store it in tanks underground. If there is any surplus it is led to the small pond in the middle of the village where it brings joy to frogs and children.
